- Governance Policies : Create cross-functional AI ethics board. Draft policies covering transparency, bias, privacy, and safety;
- Ethical Usage: Ethical usage at the core even from development stage—use diverse datasets, techniques like differential privacy, and explainable AI , “safety by design;”
Control Implementation – Based on risk assessment, mitigation steps to prioritized and implemented. Guardrails and ‘security by design’ approach are to be taken to achieve cost-effective mitigation steps.
- Test and Validate: Conduct red teaming (simulated attacks), bias audits, and robustness checks;
- Metrics and Monitoring: Define relevant AI monitoring metrics and data-collection methods rolled out in phases with human oversight. Implement continuous logging and real-time anomaly identification;
- Audit and Report Transparently: To identify compliance/risk, conduct periodic audits; and publish AI reports; and,
- Review and Course Correction: Feedback loops from users and incidents. Update policies periodically, or after major events and changes; a mindset or a work culture of continual optimization is essential.
How to Sustain AI Governance?
Sustaining is the hardest part, but good practices enable the success of AI governance.
Sustained governance also depends on clear accountability and organizational integration. Existing governance, risk, security and compliance need to incorporate ownership for AI risks, technical integrity and regulatory compliance. Doing so ensures that governance is integrated and controlled across functions and the technology ecosystem.
